Fuvahmulah Airport has been temporarily shut down due to the airport's fire lorry breaking down. 

National airline, Maldivian, is the only airline that currently operates to Fuvahmulah Airport. With the dissolving of Regional Airports, the Fuvahmulah Airport (RACL) is now operated by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). 

A Maldivian official said that the Fuvahmulah Airport has been temporarily closed from yesterday onwards due to issues with the fire lorry. 

MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef said that one of the first actions taken after dissolving of RACL is reviewing the status of ground handling and fire fighting handling equipment. 

"No maintenance has been done on anything. We began a process of emergency purchase of equipment. But there is a lot of customizing that needs to be done when purchasing fire fighting equipment," Shareef said. 

Referring to the issue at Fuvahmulah Airport, Shareef said that the airport's fire truck broke down while on the runway due to engine trouble. 

He said that a technical team from MACL has been sent to Fuvahmulah through the Addu route last night. Although unable to state a timeline for when the issue will be resolved, he assured that efforts are being made to resume service at the earliest.
