Parliament has approved the appointment of current Civil Service Commission (CSC) President Mohamed Nasih for an additional term, along with the appointment of two additional members to the commission.
Three CSC members will see an end to their terms on 3rd September, with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu recommending six names to Parliament for the position.
Parliament has approved current CSC President Nasih, Dr. Dheeba Moosa and Dr. Hussain Faiz. Dheeba is Health Minister Nazim's spouse. Dr. Faiz was a former Secretary General to the Supreme Court.
52 members of Parliament gave their approval to appoint Nasih as President of the CSC, with four members voting against.
60 members of Parliament gave their approval to appoint Dr. Dheeba, with 54 members approving the appointment of Dr. Faiz.
Dheeba has also served as Deputy Vice Chancellor at the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) in the past.
Nasih, along with other members of CSC, had earlier been looked into by to the standing committee of the parliament over an issue, with work being done for members to be removed. Even though it was a sensitive issue, Nasih came through unscathed, with other members having been removed.
Today's hearing saw S. Hulhudhoo, Ahmed Magsoodh be approved for appointment as a Human Rights Commission member. The vote passed with 58 out of 62 members voting in favor.
