President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced last night that a city hotel and Islamic centre is to be developed in Kulhudhuffushi City. 

Speaking to residents of Kulhudhuffushi last night during his ongoing visit to HDh atoll, the President said that development of the Islamic Centre will commence next year. 

Further, a city hotel is to be developed on the plot adjacent to the Kulhudhuffushi Airport, in aims to reap economic benefits. 

The President said that as soon as the council facilitates the option of investment on the land to the Economic Ministry, development of the city hotel will be opened for bidding. 

"A city hotel being opened there will bring considerable development," the President said. 

The land where the government plans to build a city hotel is part of the Kulhudhuffushi mangrove swamp. The area is currently closed off to the public and left unused. 

The President also announced that an eco-tourism project will be implemented in HDh Keylakunu, an island close to Kulhudhuffushi. This project has been handed over to MTDC, with the design already completed, he said. 

The President noted that MTDC has also finalized financing for this project.
