President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that the construction of an additional 100 housing units in Nolhivaranfaru, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, will be handed over to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) early next month.

Speaking at a community meeting during his visit to the island, the President said the new units are intended for residents who own land but have been unable to build homes due to financial or logistical challenges.

“These will be three-bedroom houses built on each individual’s own land, the council should now begin identifying eligible residents, and the project will be carried out in coordination between the council and the Ministry.” he said.

He emphasized that the initiative will bring significant relief to many families struggling to develop their plots, calling it a “very important project.”

President Muizzu also handed over 100 already-completed housing units to the Nolhivaranfaru Island Council. During the handover, he noted that an estimated 250 more housing units are still needed to meet the island’s demand, which is why the government is launching this next phase of 100 units.

President Muizzu announced plans to develop a FIFA-standard football stadium and a sports complex in Nolhivaranfaru, calling it a major step forward for local sports. The stadium project was awarded to RDC, while MACL will handle the sports complex.
