Utheemu residents to be honored for preserving nationalism

According to the President’s Office, three people will receive the National Award of Honour this year, including one posthumously. Nine individuals and companies will be recognised with the National Award of Encouragement.

President Mohamed Muizzu has decided that the residents of Utheemu, in Haa Alifu atoll, will be conferred a special honour in recognition of their role in preserving Maldivian nationalism.

The President’s Office said the honour acknowledges the community’s efforts in maintaining Utheemu Ganduvaru, the historic palace linked to Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu, a national hero.

The award will be presented during this year’s National Day ceremony, which will be held in Utheemu tomorrow at 10 am.

The National Award of Honour and the National Award of Encouragement will also be conferred at the event.

Recipients of the National Award of Honor will receive a medal, badge and commemorative plaque, while winners of the National Award of Encouragement will be presented with a plaque and certificate.
