State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has announced scheduled power interruptions in parts of Malé and Hulhumalé tomorrow, due to essential maintenance work on the 50 MW power plant in Hulhumalé.

According to a statement issued by STELCO, the power plant will be temporarily shut down from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM as part of efforts to strengthen the electricity supply network in the Malé region.

“During this maintenance work, areas in Malé and Hulhumalé will experience power outages lasting approximately one hour each,” the statement read. “Customers will receive SMS notifications in advance, informing them of the exact times and areas affected.”

STELCO clarified that critical infrastructure, including hospitals and other essential service providers, will not be impacted by the power cuts.

SMS alerts regarding the planned outages are scheduled to be sent out tonight.

“We aim to complete the work ahead of schedule and restore power to normal as quickly as possible,” STELCO stated.

The company emphasized that this is a preventive maintenance effort, necessary to prevent future disruptions and improve the reliability of power services.

STELCO has implemented similar load-shedding measures previously, including on June 1 last year and August 9 this year, due to technical issues. The company has since said the root causes have been identified and are being resolved through ongoing upgrades and maintenance.
