President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced today that the land reclaimed by MTCC in AA. Bodufolhadhoo will be handed over to the island's council.

Speaking to residents of Bodufolhadhoo in his ongoing visit to AA Atoll, the President stated that the reclaimed land is key for the infrastructural development of the island.

The President said that 4 of the 12 hectares reclaimed by MTCC during the previous administration had not been handed over to the council due to some issues that arose.

He said that the failure to handover the land to the council had left the land unused to date, with no maintenance having been done either. This has also led to a halt in shore protection efforts on the island, he said.

"From today, this issue will be resolved. As a result, we will begin shore protection efforts on this island," he said.

The work will be conducted through next year's budget, the President said.

MTCC completed land reclamation in Bodufolhadhoo in 2023. Bodufolhadhoo, with a population of 800, is only 8.7 hectares in size. The land reclamation has doubled the size of the island.
