Government to develop picnic islands in all atolls

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that one island from each atoll will be developed as a picnic island for residents.

Speaking to residents of AA. Mathiveri during his ongoing visit to the atoll, the President said that he has received requests for a picnic island from many islands. He said that he understands the lack of an island to go on picnic with family would pose difficulties.

Further, having a dedicated picnic island for residents would also benefit tourism, the President said.

He said that research is being conducted now on establishing picnic islands, assuring that practical work will commence soon.

"We will take one island from each atoll in the Maldives, and develop it as a picnic island for residents and guests staying at guesthouses," the President said.

"It is difficult for residents of islands, they do not have anywhere to go on picnic with family. There is also nowhere to take tourists. So the government will develop one island from each atoll as a picnic island, research for this is ongoing. We will fulfill this," he said.
