President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced today that Maafaru lagoon will be developed as a picnic island for the residents of Feridhoo. The announcement came during the President's ongoing visit to Alif Alif Atoll.
In a meeting held with local residents, two key agreements were signed: one for the development of a boat beaching area and the other for the creation of a picnic island. The agreements were signed by Minister of Construction Abdulla Muththalib on behalf of the government, and CEO Ahmed Saudee on behalf of MTCC.

Speaking at the event, President Muizzu emphasized that the Maafaru lagoon development aims to generate sustainable income for Feridhoo, which relies heavily on tourism. He highlighted the importance of preserving the natural environment during the development process, stressing that the project must avoid causing erosion or degrading the natural beauty of the lagoon.

“For the future development of Feridhoo, I have decided to integrate Maafaru lagoon into the island and establish a picnic island there,” said the President.
In addition to this project, President Muizzu also signed agreements for the expansion of the Feridhoo Health Centre and the construction of a multipurpose hall at the Atoll Education Centre on the island.
