President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said today that his ongoing trips to the islands, accompanied by cabinet ministers and state-owned enterprise (SOE) heads, are intended to end a long-standing “inefficient system” and fast-track development.

The President began his tour of Alifu Alifu Atoll today, starting with Himandhoo, where he met with residents. He said the purpose of traveling with decision-makers was to provide direct solutions without delays.

“I am traveling to the islands in this way so that residents can convey what they need in one meeting or one trip and solutions can be brought,” President Muizzu said.

Responding to opposition criticism of the visits, the President said they failed to recognize their importance.

“We are doing these trips with the people who are running all the projects in the islands. If we don’t do this in this way, it is very inefficient,” he said.

He added that previously, island agencies had to travel to Male' for assistance. Now, issues can be addressed on-site with the presence of ministers and SOE heads.

The President said he does not conclude meetings until all concerns are raised, after which discussions are held with the relevant agencies.

During his visit, the President pledged to start land reclamation work in Himandhoo next year, as requested by residents, and promised further development projects for the island.
