Adhaalath Party has remained active in Maldivian politics for the past 20 years, working alongside a few other key political parties in the country. Party President Sheikh Imran Abdulla stated that Adhaalath has consistently stood for justice, defended rightful causes, and will continue to do so in the future.
Adhaalath Party, the second political party to be formed in the Maldives after the main opposition MDP, celebrated its 20th anniversary this week. During the celebration, Party President Sheikh Imran Abdulla delivered a special statement, emphasizing the party’s continued readiness to support and assist the Maldivian people whenever needed.
Reflecting on the party’s history, led by many respected religious scholars, Imran said that Adhaalath Party has always stood up for the people whenever government policies were compromised, the political environment was corrupted, or the rights and interests of citizens were at risk.
"Today, Adhaalath Party members should feel proud and joyful, knowing that Adhaalath is one of only two political parties that have served the Maldives continuously for the past 20 years," he said.
Imran is currently engaged in business in Thailand following the end of the MDP’s second term in government.
Imran, who served as Home Minister during the second MDP government, said the Adhaalath Party was officially registered with the Elections Commission on August 18, 2005, following extensive discussions among religious scholars about forming a political party based on Islamic values. He noted that the party was born from the collaboration of a large group of scholars and civic educators.
Imran highlighted that Adhaalath party has played a significant role in every major national movement over the past 20 years. In addition, the party has contributed to many social, religious, and reform efforts.
"Each of these achievements is the result of the tireless efforts and sincere commitment of Adhaalath Party members," he said.
