A person removed from the 4,000 flats list under the previous government's Gedhoruveriya Scheme has filed a case in the Civil Court after the Housing Ministry stated he did not meet the eligibility criteria.

After agreement signing began following the previous government's finalized permanent list, the Housing Ministry stated that anyone later found ineligible would be removed.

Lawyer Mohamed Nishan Ibrahim, representing the man removed from the list, told the press that the case was filed because the rights of many people are being violated.

In the case filed, he requested an interim order to prevent the flat from being transferred to someone else.

Along with Nishan, Male' City Council Member Saif Fathih said he will support the victims by taking their cases to court and fighting for their rights.

In April, the current government reviewed the original flat list and published a new list of eligible beneficiaries. Due to concerns about fairness, the government decided to allocate flats based on the November 2023 list instead of the earlier one.

Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation is now signing agreements with the recipients of the 4,000 flats. As of last week, 1,200 agreements have been signed, according to the FDC.
