The enforcement order of the unpaid MVR 1.1 million rent tied to Newport View Restaurant grounds against Strada Private Limited was canceled by the Civil Court upon request from the state.

Strada was given the waterfront plot on September 2016 under an agreement with the Housing Ministry. They were to develop it into a food outlet.

The court ordered Strada to pay MVR 1.1 million in rent within 30 days from September 2019, along with having to vacate the premises which is located adjacent to Lonuziyaaraiy Park within 15 days. Both High Court and Supreme Court had upheld the ruling.

Even though the land was given back, the rent was still yet to be paid. And while the process of rent enforcement had begun, the lawsuit was canceled upon request by the state so that they can conduct a thorough review on the matter, as per the Civil Court's decision.

An official from the Attorney General’s (AG) Office told Mihaaru News that the lawsuit was withdrawn after the disputed land was returned to the state. However, the official confirmed that the case will be refiled once the MVR 1.1 million rent claim is properly reviewed.
