Parliament has approved the appointment of Mohamed Shafeeq Mamdhooh to the Human Rights Commission (HRCM).
He was appointed to the commission by a vote of 64 members. Shafeeq has also served as the CEO of the Local Government Authority (LGA).
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu recommended the names of Shafeeq and Mohamed Faris Thoha for appointment to the two vacancies of HRCM.
The two were interviewed by the parliament's Human Rights Committee.
However, some people filed complaints with the parliament about Faris regarding domestic violence allegations. The committee decided not to approve his name because of the way he answered some questions during the interview.
However, his ex-wife has denied the allegations. She said that no instances in the complaint had occurred.
The committee sent only Shafeeq's name to the parliament for approval.
