Man arrested over accident in L. Kahdhoo

A man has been arrested in connection with a road accident that occurred Friday night in L. Kahdhoo, resulting in the death of an elderly woman.

The suspect, Mohamed Nausaan, 37, from Hora Villa, L. Fonadhoo, was the driver of the motorcycle involved in the incident. He was arrested and remanded in custody for 15 days, according to Maldives Police Service.

The accident took place around 7:30 p.m. Friday night near Kahdhoo Airport when a motorcycle struck a group of pedestrians using a zebra crossing. The victims included 64-year-old Maryam Moosa from Ethuma, L. Maavah, and her grandchild.

Maryam Moosa sustained serious injuries and passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Her grandchild, the motorcycle driver, and a female passenger on the bike were also injured and received medical care.
