India is a trusted partner to Maldives' development: President

India is one the Maldives' most reliable partners for its development, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated today.

President Muizzu wrote a heartfelt tweet in celebration of India's 79th Independence Day, greeting President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the citizens of India.

He wished them even more success in the future to come.

President Muizzu said that India is one of the most reliable partners in the development of Maldives, and the development projects of both countries along with the relationship citizens of both countries have symbolizes the strong bond between both nations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Maldives on July 25 on a diplomatic visit to commemorate Maldives' 60th Independence Day. This further strengthened the national bond between the two nations.

During Modi's visit, four MOU's and three agreements were signed, along with discussions of a free trade agreement being started.

One of the signed agreements include a line of credit (LOC) worth USD 565 million (MVR 8.7 billion). Concessions were also given to the LOC that was granted to Maldives during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government.
