The newly appointed Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Brigadier General (Retd) Ali Zuhair, inspected ongoing housing projects “Reethigas” and “The Gardens” in Hulhumalé Phase 1 today. The visit aimed to assess the progress of the long-delayed developments being handled by private contractors.

Zuhair, who officially took over as HDC's MD on July 30 is currently addressing internal and pending issues within the corporation. Previously the Managing Director of the Road Development Corporation (RDC), he is now overseeing major housing initiatives in the capital’s urban expansion island.

The Reethigas Housing Project, initiated during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, comprises three 14-storey towers with a total of 459 apartments in various configurations ranging from one to four bedrooms. The project had stalled due to funding shortages, but has since resumed under a settlement agreement with HDC.

Meanwhile, “The Gardens” project, originally launched by JAAH Investment in 2017, faced significant delays, leading to contract termination. After JAAH failed to meet deadlines and rejected proposed concessions, HDC reassigned the remaining work to the RCC this year.

Once completed, The Gardens will feature 83 apartments in 2+1, 3, and 3+1 layouts, many of which have already been sold.
