President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that development of a 30 bed hospital in B. Dharavandhoo will be included in next year's budget.

Dharavandhoo was the President's twelfth stop during his ongoing visit to Baa Atoll. Speaking to residents of Dharavandhoo, the President acknowledged that the island's health centre is in need of improvement.

The President announced that preparations are underway to introduce dialysis and X-ray services in Dharavandhoo this year.

"We are now in the process of bringing dialysis machines to this island. That service will be commenced fairly soon. In addition to that, we are also prioritizing improving human resources. The health centre on this island will advanced to new heights. We are bringing about possible changes even now," the President said.

"We are going to continue doing this and expand the health centre, adding more beds and resources, with the aim of developing a 30 bed hospital through including that in next year's budget."

Besides the importance a quality hospital holds for the residents of Dharavandhoo, the island is also fast developing as a local tourism hub, having its own airport as well, which further raises the need for a hospital, the President said.

The President also announced that road development in Dharavandhoo will also be contracted out soon. He further said that efforts are underway to commence passport issuance services on the island.
