More than 1,000 of the 1,600 individuals stopped by police in Hulhumalé last month have prior criminal records, according to newly released statistics.
The data, compiled by the Hulhumalé Phase 1 and Phase 2 police stations, outlines law enforcement activities carried out throughout the month.
Police at the Hulhumalé Phase 1 station conducted 21,458 location checks and spent 657 hours on road patrol. Officers stopped and questioned 1,249 individuals, of whom 786 were found to have criminal records.
Meanwhile, officers at the Hulhumalé Phase 2 station carried out checks at 8,030 locations and spent over 470 hours patrolling roads. A total of 389 individuals were stopped and questioned, with 300 identified as having criminal records.
Police also reported the recovery of various items during the month, including two motorcycles, 11 mobile phones, five electronic devices, and MVR 1,925 in cash. An additional 42 items, including ID cards and cash cards, were also recovered.
From the Phase 2 station alone, officers recovered MVR 62,045 in cash along with other valuables estimated to be worth MVR 3,900.
