Air Arabia becomes second carrier to receive service at Velana International Airport's new terminal, with the airline commencing operations from Terminal 1 today.

MACL held a special ceremony today to inaugurate the UAE budget airline's first departure from VIA Terminal 1.

The first airline to receive service at the new terminal was national airline Maldivian. Maldivian flights began operating out of Terminal 1 on July 27. The second airline has been added in to service two weeks after this.

Air Arabia travels between Male', the Middle East and Europe.

MACL aims to provide service from Terminal 1 to all 34 airlines operating out of VIA by the end of September, when Maldives' tourism peak season begins.

The new terminal was launched on July 26, coinciding with Maldives celebrating six decades of independence.
