The Raajje Transport Link (RTL) high-speed ferry service has officially launched operations in Baa Atoll, marking another major step in easing inter-island travel across the Maldives.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially inaugurated the service today as he began his four-day visit to the atoll.

Baa Atoll is part of Zone 2, which also includes Noonu (N), Raa (R), and Lhaviyani (Lh) Atolls. RTL services were previously launched in the other atolls of Zone 2, and with the addition of Baa Atoll, RTL coverage in the zone is now complete.

The newly launched ferry service in Baa Atoll will be operated as a trial phase and will be free of charge during the initial period. Paid services will be introduced in the following phases, with tickets available through the RTL website and mobile application.

With this launch, RTL services are now available in 10 atolls across the country.

The government has entrusted MTCC (Maldives Transport and Contracting Company) with implementing and operating the RTL ferry network. The nationwide project is being rolled out in three phases across six zones, at a total cost of MVR 800 million.

The RTL ferry project was first launched in 2022 as part of a broader initiative to improve transportation connectivity in the Maldives.
