Minor driving motorbike crashes in Addu while avoiding police

A minor who was driving a motorcycle in Addu City collided with another motorbike in an attempt to avoid police last night.

Three individuals were injured in the incident.

Police received reports of a two motorcycles colliding along Addu City Hithadhoo, Heena Magu at 9:30 pm last night.

They further stated that one driver, aged 15 and the passenger aged 16 were injured in the accident, with the female driver on the other motorcycle being injured as well. All three are being treated at Addu Equatorial Hospital.

The extent of the injuries of the parties involved remains unclear.

Police have denied social media rumors that the accident occurred as a result of officers pursuing a minor in their vehicle.

They said that they have currently found no links between the accident and the police vehicle in question. They also said they weren't in the process of intercepting a vehicle when the accident occurred.

"So far, investigations have revealed that the accident occurred when the youth turned the motorcycle around after spotting the police and colliding with the other motorcycle as it attempted to avoid crashing into a car," Police said.
