The Civil Court has ruled that the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) is to pay MVR 1 million to a private company upon failure to pay for supplied goods. The payment is to be done within 15 days.

The private company, named Salts and Sands sued WAMCO for MVR 2.1 million, which is the amount WAMCO had initially failed to pay for the goods.

WAMCO has agreed that the payment is something they have to process. They also mentioned in a letter to the court that they had paid MVR 115,428 to the private company.

The court ruled that WAMCO were to pay MVR 1.16 million (after deductions from the previous payment of MVR 115,428) within 15 days. WAMCO is to pay an additional MVR 50,000 due to the cost incurred by Salts and Sands when they had gone to court to present the case.

Certain government-owned companies have been accused of not paying their dues to private companies. Similar sentences have been handed down against various companies previously as well.
