Police find 242 vape flavour bottles during search related to domestic violence

Police have seized 242 vape flavour bottles they uncovered during a search of a Hiyaa Flat in relation to a domestic violence complaint.

Police said that the vape flavour bottles had been uncovered during a search of a flat following a report of domestic violence lodged at the Hulhumale' Phase 2 Police Station at 9:14pm last night.

With amendments brought to the Tobacco Control Act, import, sale and use of vapes has been banned in Maldives since December 15 last year.

As the law stands now, import of vape related products are set a fine of MVR 50,000, with an additional MVR 10,000 fine for each electronic cigarette or vape brought in.

Customs revealed on Tuesday that vape-related import fines have reached MVR 400 million to date, with one person fined MVR 72 million
