The Maldives Immigration Department has denied media reports claiming a Maldivian national has been jailed in the UK for sexual assault.

According to the Daily Mail, a man identified as Sundaralingam Kudalingam was sentenced to four years in prison for allegedly assaulting a film star in London. The report described the man as a Maldivian national.

However, the Maldives Immigration Department issued a statement clarifying that the individual in question is not registered as a Maldivian in any government database or agency.

Authorities have urged the public and media outlets to refrain from spreading false or unverified information in such sensitive matters.
