National news agency to be established with PSM

An agreement was reached between the Information and Arts Ministry and state media PSM to establish a national news agency.

Youth Empowerment Information and Arts Minister Ibrahim Waheed (Asward) and PSM Managing Director Ibrahim Nasreen have signed to establish an agency that brings about various types of news and information.

The ministry said on the statement publicized on the government's website that the newly established news agency will provide media access to all required news and information on a digital portal.

However, the Information and Arts Ministry did state that that service will only be available to parties that have been officially registered. These include relevant photos and videos as well.

Major news agencies bring about international news to the public. However, Maldives does not have a specific agency to give out news and information, even though the country has various media agencies.
