Man injured while trying to fell a coconut palm

A man attempting to fell a coconut palm in GDh. Fiyoari has sustained serious injuries.

The injured man is Aneedh Saeed, 38, Gaskara. GDh. Fiyoari.

An official from the Fiyoari Council said that Aneedh sustained injuries through being thrown when the end of a rope tied to the coconut palm got entangled around his foot. The official said that it is believed Aneedh suffered a broken rib amongst other injuries.

Aneedh was initially taken to the AbduSamad Memorial Hospital in GDh. Thinadhoo. He was then transferred to Male' for further treatment.

"There was a rope tied to the top of the coconut palm being felled, so as to direct its fall in a specific direction. Some of the people were holding on to the rope, with Aneedh last in line. They did not realize the end of the rope was entangled around his leg. When the palm fell, he was thrown along with it," the official explained.
