Higher Education Ministry has stated today that 195 complaints have been submitted regarding the provisional list of students to receive student loans this year.
1,338 students applied for the student loan this year, while 500 slots had been offered. Of the applicants, 806 were found to be eligible for the loan. The provisional list of recipients was published in July.
The deadline for submitting concerns and complaints regarding the list was last Sunday.
A Media Official of the ministry said that complaints had been received from 195 loan applicants.
The ministry said that the complaints will be reviewed and addressed soon, with the loans then to be issued.
When the provisional list was published, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that all 806 students deemed eligible will be provided loans.
The student loan scheme provides loans for two categories: students newly commencing higher studies and top up loans for students currently pursuing higher studies.
This year, top up loans are capped at MVR 700,000. However, this amount may seen an increase following the President's decision to issue loans to all 806 applicants deemed eligible.
