In less than a week since it was erected, a monument placed at the K. Huraa harbour by the island's council has been vandalized.

The island, known amongst tourists as 'crab island', placed a monument depicting a grey heron and a red crab, with the name of the island.

In a statement issued yesterday, Huraa Council said that the fibre monument had been vandalized on Monday night.

The council has now reported the matter to Police. The council said that they had decided to involve the police in an attempt to find the culprits as actions such as these obstruct the development of the island, and the monument itself had been built on public funds.

If left unchecked, these acts may repeat—undermining peace and sowing discord in the community, the council's statement said.

Based on photos, it appears as if the grey heron model was damaged using a sharp object.
