Housing Development Corporation has announced that more godowns from the two warehouses they have developed in Thilafushi for storing various chemicals are now up for lease.
In an announcement issued last Wednesday, HDC said that 16 godowns from these two warehouses are now up for lease, with interested parties invited to submit bids.
The godowns up for lease are:
- 3 godowns of over 1000sqft
- 10 godowns of over 990sqft
- 1 godown of over 600sqft
- 1 godown of over 400sqft
- 1 godown of over 280sqft
The deadline for submitting bids is 2pm on August 20. Bid opening will also be on the same day, HDC announced.
HDC said that the godowns are built in compliance with safety standards and equipped with modern facilities.
Fire-rated structures are used and the godowns are also equipped with fire extinguishers, CCTV cameras, security room and lightning protection system.
The godowns will be leased to the highest bidders. MVR 5000 has to be paid as bid security for the godowns, which will be leased for a period of five years.
The two warehouses house a total of 34 godowns, of which some have already been leased.
The decision to transfer chemical warehouses in Male' to Thilafushi was made by the government following a devastating fire incident in 2019 where a fire broke out in a chemical warehouse in Male'. The incident caused the death of one individual and caused extensive damage to many surrounding residences.
Statistics shared by the Defence Ministry last year indicate that there area 144 chemical warehouses and 62 shops selling chemicals in Male'.
