Previously, Immigration would have to contact the relevant agencies when wanting to determine when a marine vessel was inbound to Maldives. Now with the implementation of the UAIS, this process has become significantly easier.

"Previously, once we got the ETA of a vessel, we had to follow the protocol of going through various agencies such as MPL or Customs, where they would give us the relevant information that allows us to narrow down when it would enter Maldivian waters, which would then allow one of our officers to go to confirm and receive the vessel. Now, we can ascertain whether the vessel has departed, where the vessel currently is and where the vessel that is supposed to enter Maldivian waters currently is at. This is an important step towards building more capacity," said Immigration.

UAIS is a system that traces the pathing of marine vessels that enter and leave Maldivian waters. International ports are using this system to ensure safety of travel and increase efficiency of operations.
