A large part of Maldives has been designated with a Yellow Alert due to worsening weather.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a Yellow Alert spanning Haa Alif Atoll all the way to Kaafu Atoll from 7:30am to 1:30pm. The islands within that region typically experience winds up to 25mph to 30mph. Gusts are expected to hit 50mph as per the MET.

MET said that strong winds and rough seas are expected today.

MET also issued a White Alert spanning Alif Alif Atoll until Laamu Atoll from 7:30am to 1:30pm. Islands within that space will experience winds up to 19mph to 24mph, with gusts expected to hit 45mph.

Maldives has been experiencing some rough weather since last week, with the southwest monsoon hitting its peak. Northern and Central atolls in Maldives also saw multiple White Alerts go up yesterday due to bad weather.

MET has stated that the weather is predicted to get better from tomorrow onwards.

All services that travel via sea have been advised to proceed with caution during these times of rough waters.
