Flats to be allotted to those scoring over 76 who were excluded from draw

The ministry stated that allocation for higher scorers will be prioritized, and agreements with 75-point applicants are temporarily suspended. A revised draw and allocation policy have been announced. The correction process is underway.

Concerns have emerged regarding the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme, specifically the allocation of flats to applicants who scored 75 marks or below, while some individuals who scored more than 76 marks were not allocated any flats.

In an announcement today, the Ministry of Housing addressed the issue, stating that the matter is currently being resolved. The ministry acknowledged that certain eligible individuals were not included in the original draw. Although agreement signings have already begun, the allocation of flats to applicants with 75 points will be put on hold until flats are allocated to those who scored above 76 points.

According to the ministry, applicants who scored more than 76 points will be allocated three-bedroom flats in the first round. After this allocation is complete, the remaining flats will be distributed through a draw among those who scored 75 points. The ministry has also published the policy for conducting this draw.

Additionally, in the first round, two-bedroom flats will be allocated to applicants who scored more than 73 marks.

Despite these arrangements, the ministry admitted that some individuals who should have been included in the original draw—held on November 16, 2023—were mistakenly left out. As a result, several applicants with scores above 76 marks were not allocated flats, while some with 75 points were.

The ministry emphasized that the policy clearly states flats must be allocated to those who scored above 76 marks. However, it did not specify the exact number of flats to be allocated at this stage.

The ministry confirmed: “Once the allocation process for applicants scoring above 76 marks is completed, the flats for those who scored 75 will be processed.”

The final list of eligible applicants for flats under construction in Hulhumalé was published in the government gazette on November 4, 2023. The current government has committed to providing flats to everyone on that list who meets the eligibility criteria.

Upon signing the housing agreement, applicants are required to pay a security deposit in order to receive the keys to their units—MVR 15,000 for two-bedroom flats and MVR 25,000 for three-bedroom flats.
