Hulhumale' Hospital will be starting their medical internship programme on Sunday.
The hospital announced that fifteen students will undertake a year-long internship this year. The orientation programme is currently ongoing.
Hulhumale' Hospital stated that a high number of students had applied for the internship, but only fifteen slots are made available this year.
The hospital announced the internship on June 30.
While medical internships are now being introduced at Hulhumale' Hospital, both Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and ADK Hospital have been offering internship programmes in the Male' region.
Addu Equatorial Hospital also commenced an internship programme last one, marking the first such programme in the atolls.
When applying for internships, medical students have to submit an attested copy of their MBBS certificates. The copy must be accredited by the MQA. Along with this, students are required to submit a copy of Police clearance certificate and Certificate of Provisional Medical Registration from the Maldives Medical and Dental Council.
The new pay structure for doctors includes an allocation of an MVR 10,000 allowance for medical interns. All students undertaking internships at government hospitals are provided this allowance.
