New building to be constructed at Iskandar School

The Education Ministry has decided to construct a two-story classroom building at Iskandar School's A Block.

Safety experts had stated that the building near the schools main gate is unsafe to use after they had conducted a survey. The building, which had been eroding for 8 years, was demolished in June.

Parents had stated that they wanted a student "play ground" in place of the building. After the ministry had spoken to parents, a consensus was reached to construct a row of classrooms instead.

Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu told Mihaaru News that a building of classrooms will be built. The minister went on to say that they are currently drawing up plans for the building, and will only know how many total classrooms will be included after the plans have been finalized on paper.

After A Block was demolished, the school, which has more than 2,000 students, now receive their education in classrooms located in B Block and C Block.

However, parents have complained that there are visible fractures on the premises where the students study. Parents had also expressed the difficulty of managing the classrooms due to the persisting problems and reduction in amount of classrooms.

The Education Ministry has said that with the construction of the new building, the aforementioned issues will also receive well needed attention.
