Police have started investigation social media pages concerning sorcery and the promotion of such practices.

The movement has been gaining traction on Facebook since June of this year.

A police media official told Mihaaru News that the issue of sorcery based media pages that spread their information and the availability of their services has been presented to the authorities. The official stated that the issue is being investigated.

Facebook has quite a few sorcery pages circulating on the social media website.

These pages post images on sorcery practices and information pertaining to said practices, with page owners specifying the types of sorcery services available as a service as well.

Even though sorcery is known to be a grave sin, some social media pages have been advertising the medical benefits sorcery may have. Various islands have been having escalating issues with sorcery, with authorities sending teams to investigate and verify the incidents.

Police sent an investigative team to HDh. Kulhudhuffushi to look into sorcery inquiries on 20th February and found 8 out of 10 houses to have equipment related to sorcery.

This past May saw 8 individuals apprehended by authorities after they had gone to HA. Baarah to investigate, with the individuals having been released from custody since then.
