A boat that set sail to Th. Veymandoo from Male' has reportedly sunk due to the boat being overloaded with goods, along with three individuals.

The boat, named "Al Majra", capsized after hitting a reef along M. Dhiggiri.

Police said that they received information of the boat hitting the reef, taking on water and subsequently sinking early in the morning at 5:34am.

Upon receiving the report, police from Vaavu Atoll sped to the scene, encountering three individuals along the reef. The police rescued the individuals and brought them to Felidhoo, as per their statement.

Of the three individuals, one of them is a Maldivian, with the other two individuals being Bangladeshi. Police said that all three people are in good health.

Police said that the boat was carrying a large amount of PVC foam boards and various construction materials. The boat, along with everything on it, have since sunk into the ocean.

Due to the strong waves that have been known to carry off things being carried by boats within that region, caution has been advised by the authorities.

The southwest monsoon has seen some bad weather this time around. MET has announced that Maldives will see rainfall until Thursday. Due to this, MET has advised caution and to take the weather into account if travelling.
