Civil Court has accepted the case submitted seeking an interim order to halt the appointment of former Deputy Minister of Homeland Security Ministry Mohamed Shaheed to the High Court bench.
Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to appoint Shaheed and former Civil Court Judge Abdulla Jameel Moosa to the two vacant positions of High Court Judge.
Another applicant to the position, lawyer Ahmed Naushad, submitted a case to the Civil Court against the appointment of Shaheed, citing his political background.
Shaheed has previously been active in political activities of both Progressive Party of Maldives and People's National Congress.
Although the Civil Court has accepted the case, they are yet to decided on whether an interim order will be issued.
Meanwhile, the JSC is preparing to hold the oath taking ceremony for the two new appointees tonight.
