A man has been arrested over a death threat made against President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Facebook.
According to police, Maseeh Moosa, 25, from Thaa atoll Thimarafushi, was arrested under a court order for threatening the president on social media. His mobile phone was also seized.
The threat was made in response to a news article about President Muizzus' decision to implement the death penalty for drug traffickers.
In a Facebook post, a user identified as Maseeh Moosa wrote that the president “should be killed first”.
Police launched an investigation following the post.
