Former Civil Court judge Jameel and former Deputy Minister Shaheed to be appointed as High Court judges

This decision follows two High Court judges being appointed by the Supreme Court. 17 people applied to the two vacant positions, with JSC member Ali Abdul Latheef applying as well. He went on to rescind his name from the application process.

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to appoint Former Civil Court Judge Abdulla Jameel Moosa and former Deputy Minister Mohamed Shaheed to the High Court.

This decision follows two High Court judges being appointed by the Supreme Court. 17 people applied to the two vacant positions, with JSC member Ali Abdul Latheef applying as well. He went on to rescind his name from the application process.

JSC decided to appoint the two during yesterday's meeting.

The interviews for the position were also conducted yesterday.

Former judge Jameel was a part of the Magistrate Court from 2003 to 2009, going on to serve the Civil Court as a judge from 2009 to 2019. He oversaw major issues at the court during his tenure.

Shaheed has been practicing law for the last six years.
