Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Mauroof Jameel has resigned today.

It has been reported that despite having earlier announced plans to retire next month, Mauroof handed in his resignation on instruction from the Privatization and Corporatization Board.

Earlier, Mauroof had announced his intention to retire on August 18, which he had communicated to the corporation's staff via email as well. His decision was to retire and then work in an advisory capacity with the government.

No explanation has yet been provided for his abrupt resignation.

Speaking in a State TV TVM programme earlier, Mauroof had said that even at the time of joining, he had not intended to stay in the post for a long period. Rather, he had made the decision based on having certain goals he wished to achieve within the corporation, he said.

Mauroof was appointed to the position of Managing Director at HDC on December 22 last year, following the resignation of then MD Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed who was faced with allegations of corruption.
