MET Office has stated today that the earthquake near Russia earlier today will not impact the Maldives.
A magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck off Russia's far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula, leading to tsunamis affecting parts of Russia and Japan. Countries in the area are taking precautionary measures.
A MET Office media official confirmed that Maldives will not feel the effects of the earthquake.
India's meteorological service has also stated that the Indian Ocean will not be impacted by the earthquake.
