Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel said the current administration is carrying out essential works on the Gendhoruveriyaa flats in Hulhumale' that were excluded under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government.

The 4,000 flats, part of the Binveriyaa housing scheme initiated by the previous administration, are being constructed after contracting the project to two Indian companies. The project is being financed through two loans worth USD 227 million (MVR 3.5 billion) from India’s Exim Bank to KPIL (formerly JMC). Sixteen towers, called Amaan Dhoadhi, have been handed over to NBCC for completion.

Hamdhan said on X that the towers had initially lacked key infrastructure including utility connections, internet services, waste management systems and landscaping. He said the current administration has now begun addressing those gaps at a fast pace.

The list of ongoing works includes:

1. Building signage

2. CCTV network installation

3. Garbage chutes

4. Boom gates

5. Landscaping

6. Feeder cables and transformer connections

7. MWSC sewage connections

8. MWSC mainline water connections

9. Booster pumps

10. Shaft doors

11. External gates

12. GPON network (for internet and Medianet)

Hamdhan criticised the previous government for not planning essential services such as water, electricity and internet.

“The works are now being started by this government and are being done at a fast pace,” he said.

The project includes 32 towers, each 17 to 18 storeys tall. Each floor has eight apartments, comprising 1,200 two-bedroom and 2,800 three-bedroom flats.
