A youth has passed away after being stabbed in the neck in Laamu atoll Maavah earlier today.

Maavah Council President Ahmed Moosa told Mihaaru News that the victim, a young man, was attacked by an individual from another island who had arrived in Maavah.

It is unclear which island the suspect belongs to.

Moosa said the incident is believed to have followed an argument between the two. The victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the island’s health centre.

“Doctors have now declared him dead,” said Moosa.

A person speaking from the island said that the suspect was under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack and is known to frequently visit Maavah.

Police have yet to release further details regarding the incident.
