Maldives' ambassador to Japan Hassan Sobir has passed away today, with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu extending his condolences to Sobir's family.
In a post on X, President Muizzu said this was a great sadness to both himself and the country as a whole due to Sobir's passing, who was awarded with The Most Honorable Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin yesterday.
President Muizzu stated that Sobir had made many great strides in industries such as fisheries, agriculture and tourism during his time as Minister.
"He was a diplomat who worked very hard to strengthen Maldives' foreign relations while serving as Maldives' ambassador to various countries," said President Muizzu.
Sobir was awarded with The Most Honorable Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin by President Muizzu at the 60th Independence Day ceremony held yesterday.
As Sobir was unable to attend the ceremony yesterday due to health reasons, the award was received by his daughter on his behalf.
Sobir passed while he was receiving treatment at Tree Top Hospital for a long-time illness.
