Former Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan has been conferred the Most Honourable Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin in recognition of his services to the judiciary.
The recognition was presented by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at the official ceremony to mark Maldives' 60th Independence Day, currently being held at Social Centre.
The former Chief Justice received the honour in recognition of his contributions to the development of professionals in the judicial and legal sectors, his role in ensuring fair resolution of judicial matters, and his legal counsel in foreign affairs.
Muthasim is the first Chief Justice under the new Constitution who has completed a term and retired honourably. All previous Chief Justices were removed from their positions for various reasons.
Muthasim was appointed Chief Justice in December 2019. He retired from the position last Monday. He has previously served as a Supreme Court Judge from 2009 to December 2014.
