China's President Xi Jinping has sent a message of congratulations to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on the occasion of Maldives’ 60th Independence Day, reaffirming China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
In the message, delivered on 26 July, Xi extended "sincere congratulations and best wishes" to the government and people of the Maldives on behalf of the Chinese government and its citizens.
He noted the longstanding ties between the two nations, citing a “long history of friendly exchanges” and highlighting the stable development of diplomatic relations since their establishment in 1972.
Xi described the Maldives-China relationship as “a good example of equal treatment, mutual assistance and mutual benefit between countries of different sizes.”
Reflecting on President Muizzu’s state visit to China in January 2024, Xi said the two leaders had engaged in cordial and friendly exchanges and reached a broad consensus.
He reiterated commitment to deepening China-Maldives comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and to jointly building a community with a shared future.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also sent a message of congratulations to Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel on the occasion.
