Students across Maldives began their first term holidays today after schools distributed report books, marking the end of the academic term.

According to the academic calendar, classes will resume on 10 August, giving students a 16 day break.

More than 84,000 students from preschool to Grade 12 are currently enrolled in schools across the country. Teachers workforce comprises 6,516 Maldivians and 1,843 expatriates.

The previous government's shift to an academic calendar beginning in the middle of the year has now been reversed, with the academic year officially beginning in January.

This year’s second term will conclude on 25 December, with the year-end holidays running from 28 December to 22 January, aligning with the return to an academic cycle which starts in January.
