The body of AbduRahman Adam, who was brutally attacked and killed in Alifu Alifu Maalhos, has been returned to Maldives following a postmortem in India.

Police said that an autopsy was conducted in Trivandrum, and the body has since been brought back to the country. It is currently at the mortuary in Male'.

AbduRahman, 65, was discovered severely injured on the night of 12 July by his wife, Nazima Ibrahim. He was rushed to the island's health centre but succumbed to his injuries the next morning.

His home and the surrounding area have been cordoned off for over a week as police continue their investigation. No suspects have been arrested so far.

Police have collected fingerprints and footprints from individuals who entered the house and have conducted interviews. Investigators also reviewed footage from the few CCTV cameras installed around the island.

Nazima’s mobile phone was seized under a court order last Thursday as part of the investigation, but it has since been returned to her. She is currently in Male'.

Nazima told police she had seen what appeared to be footprints indicating that one or more people may have entered the house that night. At the time, she and her husband were the only occupants of the home.

Many Maalhos residents say it is difficult to believe anyone on the island could be behind the attack. The island has not observed much criminal activity in recent years and speculations that outsiders may have been involved are high among the residents.

AbduRahman's home is located near the beach on Hurasmagu, and some believe it is possible that someone arrived on the island by sea to carry out the attack.
