Male' City Council has decided to lease the vacant plot of land known as Thaiseykoshi to local music artists to support youth engagement and generate income.
The decision was made during a council meeting held today, where Mayor Adam Azim proposed leasing the land located in the council’s public services section for youth-focused activities.
The proposal was unanimously approved by all 10 members present at the meeting today.
Mayor Azim said the area has been cleared and cleaned by the council, making it suitable for use and highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for youth talent.
“There is no place in male' for talented people to showcase their abilities. We must give them a space to hold shows and other events. Right now, they have nowhere to go,” he said.
Under the plan, musicians will be allocated the land under the councils corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. The Mayor also backed a suggestion from Councillor Saif Fathih to receive a share of revenue if tickets are sold for events.
Azim noted that leasing the space would not only support artists but also provide a new source of revenue for both the council and performers.
